Treading Water

My Chris Ferguson Challenge is just treading water for the last week or so. I have been as high as $6 and as low as .50 cents and right now it is at $3 dollars and some change. The biggest problem is I don't have the bankroll to play back at someone when they hit me with a moderate raise. I have tried to play tight and only see the flop with premium hands. Unfortunately Poker.com is ganging up on my by not giving me very many premium hands. Today I played for an hour or so and the best hands I was dealt was A/K off, two times. I wasn't dealt any big pocket pairs and I wasn't able to flop a set with my small pocket pairs. The hands I did win were with Kings and that kept me pretty much at even for the day.

I will keep trying to build my bankroll with my Challenge or will go broke trying. I can't really say I am learning much as the microstakes are unreal for people calling with crap and sucking out to win the hand. I'm hoping I can survive the microstakes and get into a little higher No Limit game where the play is not as fishy.

I am going to ask Santa Claus to bring me some Poker Videos to help me step up my game. Does anyone out there know any good training videos for a medium to good players. I don't want beginner videos but would drather have training videos for advanced players. I have watched a little of Final Table Poker with Phil Gordon and I really liked it. That would be one I think I would be interested in.
I can't afford to join Cardrunners so I will have to find some other less expensive training videos.

FWIW - I bought that Phil Gordon DVD earlier this year and have watched it through a couple of times now. It has some limited replay value. The second time I watched it (and knew the outcome) I paid a bit more attention to his mindset. I thought that "internet player" also shown on the cover was a classic tilt monster. Funny how Gordon went after him with a very weak hand (but with position). Gordon could have actually have lost big on that hand. But, it is a made for TV instructional video. Not sure if all of this was staged 100% but it seemed that way. Not sure if it has much value after watching it 2 times but as a quick poker fix it is ok (like watching Rounders). It has some "laugh" value as well.

I've heard a lot of good things about Gordon's dvd. I haven't seen any of it, but it's on my wish list.

The only instructional dvd that I've ever seen that had any value to me is a somewhat hard to find set titled, "Going All In". It's a 5 disk set with Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Andy Bloch and Gus Hansen. In the set they each have their own disk.

Antonio's disk is just chip tricks, so set that one aside. Phil's disk is (if I remember correctly - it's been a while since I watched it) focused towards more like etiquette and basics of the game. I couldn't tell you what Andy's disk was about, it's been so long since I watched it, and it must not have left too big of an impression. Gus's disk was gold though. It's titled Advanced Strategies, but I'd say it leans more towards intermediate play. Either way, it's good insight into his mindset when he hits the table.

The fifth disk is a winner too. It basically has two of the pros sitting at a full ring game at a time with other players. It's just a candid look at them playing (no hole cams) with other players, and they're talking about strategy after the hands. It's pretty insightful too.

Here's an ebay link to the set. Ebay is the only place I've found the whole set.

Goodluck.
