Not a Bad Beat Story but I did lose the Hand

First let me just say that this is not a bad beat story, but I did lose the hand. I am playing .25/.50 Limit Holdem at Full Tilt Poker in an effort to build my bankroll and to work off a bonus of $25 that Full Tilt decided to give me because of my good looks. Hee hee hee

I have A/10 in late position and call preflop raise from UTG + 1. Probably my first mistake. The BB completes and there are 3 of us to see the flop. Flop is a not too bad 7s 10h 9d. BB and UTG+1 check and since I've got part of the flop I fire away and BB and UTG+1 call. Turn is Jd and BB and UTG+1 check again so I fire away again to see where I am at. The BB and the UTG+1 call. River is 3d and BB checks, UTG+1 bets and I'm thinking, "Oh oh." I call and the BB raises. I know then I am beat. UTG+1 calls and I fold.

BB shows 2d 5d for the runner/runner flush and UTG+1 shows K/Q for a made straight.

You can critique our play for a month of Sundays but the bottom line is, "Why the hell the BB stayed in long enough to catch his runner/runner and win the hand?" I wasn't too upset because if you play microstakes Limit Holdem you are going to run into this and you have to have the mentality/personality to get past it. I am just curious as to what possessed him to stay until the river with virtually nothing.

The BB had beaten me earlier when his pocket Queens were better than my pocket Jacks. I didn't get much of a read on him other than he was betting that hand passively.

I just hope he keeps playing that way and I am against him as I think I will come out on the positive side of the chip stack. so far my results have been pretty good as I am about $5 away from moving up a level.

After about an hour of Limit I cleared another $2.50 of the bonus and broke even so it wasn't all bad. It was an excellent learning experience.

I pulled my money out of Neteller today. It is going into our vacation/golf account. My access to Neteller was very limited as I couldn't find where to change my e-mail address and physical address to my new ones as we moved since the UIGEA and Neteller fiasco hit. My bank account was correct and upon making the withdrawal it allowed me to put in my new home address so I am thinking everything should go through fine. I should know by Thursday.

I am taking a hiatus from PokerStars as I think someone there flipped my Doom Switch to the ON position. I have dropped almost $20 in two weeks.

16th out of 39

I want to put out a very, very big thank you to High on Poker and Surflexus for taking time out of their busy Sunday and participating in the tourney. Surflexus made it into the money with 5 players remaining and was 4th in chip stack. I had to leave so don't know how he finished up.

If I missed any other Americans, I apologize.

I finished 16th out of a record 39 players at the Brittbloggerment 19 when I ran my pocket jacks into a set of 8s and GG me. I was pretty happy with my play until that point and I should have folded the Jacks and I still would have had enough chips to play with for a few more orbits. But, alas, I went for the big kill and paid the price with my Tourney life.

So far the USA has a pretty good showing in that tourney for having such limited numbers during a time that is difficult to play. I have finished 3rd one time in the Tourney. Surflexus made the money the first time he played this tourney. TripJax and Chipper both finished 2nd the only time they played. Not too shabby.

Pick Bloggerment 19 NL!

MAKE SURE YOU PICK THE BLOGGERMENT 19 NL! WHEN YOU REGISTER. Password is Donkament. Dang Brits can't even set up a tourney w/out making a mistake. How hard can it be to beat them at poker??

Calling on all blue blooded Americans to come accross the Atlantic with me and take down this tournament. _________________________________
My Limit Challenge on Full Tilt is going splendidly. I have earned over $40 dollars and soon will be moving up from .25/.50 Limit to .50/$1 Limit Holdem.

My PokerStars challenge is in a bit of a slump as I have failed to cash in 4 straight SitNgos. I will probably play some Limit Poker in an attempt to change things up and see if I can't take advantage of the fish and build my bankroll there up a bit.

An Open Invitation

First, I want to send out a great big THANK YOU to Iamhoff for promoting the Brittbloggerment 19 MTT on Sunday where the United States is going to bring back the cup.

I sent an invite to a whole slew of bloggers that I have read in the past. I hope no one is offended that I e-mailed them to play in this tourney. Believe me, this is a one time thing and I won't be spamming you about other tourneys in the future.

Here is the invitation:

Host:
Wolverine Fan
Location: Poker and Golf
When:
Sunday, July 29, 4:00PM

I wanted to invite you and anyone else you can round up to play against the Brits on Sunday in a bloggerment tourney on Poker Stars. It is at 4PM EDT which is sometimes difficult for us in the States but I really want to take down this tourney against the Brits.

They have set up a nation vs. nation competition and I just want the USA to take this down one time for bragging rights. It is a fun, blogger tourney with our British Poker Blogger friends and, as in typical blogger fashion, it is very tight. If you can play that would be wonderful. Invite anyone else you can think of.

Details are on my Blog at Poker and Golf

Free Money

Full Tilt Poker sent me an e-mail to tell me that they have deposited $25 dollars free money into my account and I have two weeks to earn it. This gave me the perfect opportunity to start up a new challenge. I am going to start out with .25/.50 Limit Holdem and see how high I can build it up while earning my "new" bonus. So far I have made $25 dollars and cleared $2.50 in bonus playing Limit Holdem. When I reach $50 in winnings I will move up to .50/$1 Limit Holdem.

I did this challenge before on Titan Poker where I was able to turn $50 into $300 before Titan banned players from the United States.

Now I have 4 challenges going. On Absolute and PokerStars I am trying to build my bankroll with SitNGos, on Poker.com I am doing microstakes No Limit Holdem and on Full Tilt I am doing the Limit Poker Challenge.

Stay tuned for further updates on all of these challenges.

This and That

There is a new World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, Jerry Yang. And I think poker will be better because of it. Jerry is a professional, a psychologist, which can only help legitimize Poker. He won his seat by winning a $225 satellite tournament in California instead of paying the $10,000 entry fee and calls himself a "part time" player. He plays mostly B&M Poker but was sponsored by Full Tilt. The Jamie Gold era is at an end and Poker will only be better because of it. He was 8th in chips at the final table and pretty much dominated it as he knocked out 7 of the final table players.

Neteller has announced that it is going to be able to start refunding the money that has been in limbo for so long. State tuned for further developments. I have $600 dollar tied up in Neteller and that was suppose to be my Golf money. Mrs. Wolverine will be happy to get that money back.

Myspace LayoutsThe British Open is underway and the leaderboard has a few big names on it including one Tiger Woods. In 3 more days a new champion will be crowned. The weather may be the biggest factor in who wins. The United States has dominated this tournament for the last 10 years and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Poker Challenge Update

My Poker Challenge on PokerStars is doing remarkably well thanks to a nice 3rd place finish in the Brittbloggerment 17 Tourney on Sunday. The $22 dollars I won pushed my PokerStars bankroll up to over $60 dollars from a low of $24. Not too shabby. I am going to continue to slowly move it upward and try to get into triple digits. I will probably move up in stakes at my SitNgos and play some more Limit Holdem now that I have a bit of a cushion in case I hit a bad stretch.

My Absolute Poker Challenge is goind well, also. I have moved up to $40 from a low of $26 dollars. I don't play there as much but have started to play more 2 table and 1 Table SitNgos in an attempt to get my bankroll on this site into triple digits.

My microstakes No Limit playon Poker.com hit a snag when I tilted and lost about half my stack there. I will head back there and try to get it back on track in the near future.

Close but no Cigar

The two Americans, myself and TripJax represented our country well in the Brittbloggerment 17 today on PokerStars. Alas, we were unable to take the tournament down as I finished 3rd and TripJax finished second after an excellent heads up contest versus Mike Saban. Mike played an excellent game and is a fine champion.

Close but no cigar and I want to take the time to thank TripJax for playing. I hope he can play some more in the future and maybe bring some friends with him. The USA is going to take that tournament down and SOON!!

Calling all Americans!!

Calling all Americans to play in the Brittbloggerment 17 Tourney on PokerStars. It is Country vs. Country and we need the United States to be well represented and take home the championship of this trophy.

7 days without golf makes one weak

It had been 8 days since I last picked up my golf clubs so I was really excited to get out today and what a day it was. I shot a 39 on the front 9 and a 40 on the back for a total of 79 strokes on the par 72 course I am a member of. This ties for my best round of golf ever and, like the true golfer or poker player always laments, it should have been better. I had two double bogeys that I should have held down to just a bogey so I was just a bit away from my best score ever.

My driving was so-so and my irons and short game certainly were adequate but it was my putting that saved the day. I was rolling them in from everywhere. My putting made the difference of about 6 strokes or more for the round. I don't think I missed any putts from 8 feet or closer and my lag putting was spot on.
Maybe I should take a week off from poker.

Poker Play up and down

My poker play has been a roller coaster ride lately. The upside is that my Bankroll Challenge on PokerStars is going very well. I have built my bankroll on that site from a low of $24 up to $47 right now (down from $49 when I finished out of the money in a $2.40 SitNGo).

This morning on Absolute Poker I went all in with 9/9 only to be called by A/K off. The flop had rag, 10,Q and the turn was a Jack and GG me.

I won a 45 seat SitNGo on Fullt Tilt then finished 9th out of 18 in another 2 Tale SitNgo at FT. Overall I am happy with my game and have been winning more than losing. My schedule has changed for the next few weeks so I am hoping to play in some low buy in MTTs and see how I do there.

This time of year my poker play is sporadic and I am just happy to be playing an winning. Come November I will be sitting down and really concentrating on building my bankroll on all sites.

Reality Hits me up side my Head

Yesterday I was on tilt when I posted the two hands that took me out of a 45 player SitNGo on PokerStars. I posted the hands here on my site and posted the first one at Raise the River and I received some excellent comments from several people.

Getting beat by two 2-outers on the river in the two hands hurt. No denying it but should I have been in the position to get 2-outered in the first place? That is the real question. My play was less than stellar on both of these hands. The first hand, my A/K was only 43% favorite to win. I did flop a king and got rivered with the queen but, overall, I probably shouldn't have been in that hand. The second hand I went all in because I was short stacked and knew I would be dominated by A/? and, per Phil Gordon, that is a better hand to go in with than a hand with an ace and a small kicker.

The good news is that I must have learned something because I took down a 45 Player SitNgo on Full Tilt Poker for a nice little bankroll enhancer. I was lucky on two hands that allowed me to keep playing and win. I'll post those hands later tonight or tomorrow and let me know what you think of them.

My goal is to get better at Poker and the people that read my Blog and comment and the good folks at Raise the River who have commented on my posts have helped me become a better player.

Un-fucking-real

The title of this post is what I had to say after my last two hands on JokerStars as I lost the last two on 2 outers. This is a 45 Person SitNgo and it is down to the last 16 players.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t150 (7 handed)
UTG (t3715)
MP1 (t6790)
MP2 (t3848)
CO (t2075)
Button (t2085)
Hero (t2840)
BB (t4240)
Preflop: Hero is SB with Kh, As.

4 folds, Button raises to t2085, Hero raises to t2840, 1 fold.

Flop: (t5075) Tc, Kc, 2d (2 players)
Turn: (t5075) 6d (2 players)
River: (t5075) Qs (2 players)
Final Pot: t5075
Villain turns over Q/Q to take the pot after he catches his 2 outer on the River.
Two hands later this happens:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t150 (9 handed)
BB (t2375)
UTG (t3565)
UTG+1 (t6790)
MP1 (t3848)
MP2 (t2075)
MP3 (t4170)
Hero (t755)
Button (t4390)
SB (t750)
Preflop: Hero is CO with Qd, Jh. UTG+1 posts a blind of t150.

1 fold, MP2 raises to t450, 1 fold, Hero raises to t755, 3 folds, MP2 calls t305.

Flop: (t1735) Kc, Kd, 5d (2 players)

Turn: (t1735) 7h (2 players)

River: (t1735) Td (2 players)

Final Pot: t1735
This time he turns over Q/10 suited and GG me. Another 2 outer and IGHN. What really hurts is I had him dominated.
